Saint Dositej the Confessor celebrated

- Saint Dositej was a man of love, who built bridges and who educated his faithful people to glorify God with their whole being and to love all people with their whole being, Metropolitan Porfirije said.

The memory of Saint Dositej the Confessor of Zagreb was celebrated with gatherings in the Cathedral church of the Transfiguration of the Lord and in the high school’s chapel of Saint Sava in Zagreb, where Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb- Ljubljana served the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy on January 13, 2021. The brotherhood of the monastery of St. Petka whose founder is actually Saint Dositej the Confessor, concelebrated.

The celebration of Saint Dositej the Confessor of Zagreb was marked on the property that in 1888 Djuro Avirovic, a longtime councilor and church tutor, bequeathed to the Serbian Orthodox Church Municipality of Zagreb. It was at that place in 1936 when Metropolitan Dositej founded the monastery of St. Petka. From the founding of the monastery until the beginning of the Second World War, the sisterhood of the monastery consisted mainly of nuns of Russian origin.

Today, the Serbian Orthodox High School and Spiritual Center were built on that property, but the old monastery residence, with the chapel of the Venerable Paraskeva, is a place where Orthodox Serbs from Zagreb gladly come to pray and which permanently preserves the memory of martyrdom and unwavering confession of Orthodoxy of the first Metropolitan of Zagreb, Saint Dositej.

With the arrival of Metropolitan Porfirije on the throne of the Metropolitanate of Zagreb-Ljubljana, the monastery of St. Petka was revived and today it functions as a male monastery.
