After three decades, Saint Sava Academy held in Karlovac, Croatia

With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Gerasim of Gornji Karlovac and under auspices of the Serbian Orthodox Church-school community in Karlovac and of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of the Republic of Serbia (The Office for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region), a solemn Saint Sava Academy was held in the great hall of the City theater “Zorin dom” in Karlovac on 26 January 2019.

The Saint Sava Academy began with anthem to Saint Sava performed by members of the First Croatian Chroal Society “Zora” directed by the Mrs. Radmila Bocek - after 30 years’ interrupetion. This year the Academy was in the sign of the great jubilee: the 800th anniversary of the autocephaly of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The traditional Saint Sava address was delivered by protopresbyter-staurophor Radosav Andjelic, parish priest of Karlovac. An ethno group “Iva” from Doboj (Republic of Srpska) performed traditional folklore and Church music.

The Academy was attended by His Grace Bishop Gerasim of Gornji Karlovac, envoy of the Karlovac County Mrs. Maria Medic (head of the Administration Office for education of the Karlovac County), envoy of the Mayor of Karlovac Mr. Marinko Pleskina (head of the Office for Culture and Cultural Heritage of the City of Karlovac) and by other high representatives of cultural and social life of the city.
