Saint Sava College officially opens

Thanking to God, with the support of the entire Serbian community united around the project of vital importance for its spiritual and national being in Australia and New Zealand, the Saint Sava College was opened on January 27, 2021, on the feast day of Saint Sava, the first Serbian Archbishop and Enlightener.

His Grace Bishop Siluan celebrated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy with the concelebration of protopresbyter-staurophors Miodrag Peric and Nikola Bilic, protonamesnik Aleksandar Milutinovic and deacon Milos. The choir of the church of the Holy Prince Lazar from Alexandria sang responses.

The Holy Liturgy was followed by a prayer for teachers and students at the beginning of the school year, as well as the rite of blessing the slava cake.

At 2 pm, the official opening ceremony began in the presence of the Honorable Gladys Berejiklian, Prime Minister of New South Wales, Bishop Emilian of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, clergy, guests from the political leadership of New South Wales, representatives of the embassies of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, college godparents, parents and the first students.

After the address of the Bishop, other speeches were given by Mr. Jeff Newcomb, president of the Association of Independent Schools of New South Wales; г. Philip Radok, Mayor of Hornsby; and finally the Prime Minister, who praised the project of the Serbian community and then cut the ribbon and officially opened the College of St. Sava. This was followed by a tour of the school and a photo shoot with the first generation of students who enrolled in the College.
