The Serbian Orthodox Church in Central America got a new monastery

His Eminence Amfilohije, Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral and the Administrator of South-Central America, paying a canonical visitation to this Diocese,arrived to the monastery of Holy Trinity in Guatemala on 5 November 2017.

His Eminence was welcomed by abbess of the monastery mother Ines with the sisterhood, protopresbiter-staurophor Alexios Pena Alfaro, Bishop’s deputy of Brazil as well as by monastery spiritual Fr. Ignatius.

The monastery of Holy Trinity in Guatemala was founded in April 1986 with the blessing of the late Metropolitans Damaskinos (Papandreu) of Middle Europe (Ecumenical Patriarchate). The monastery was built on a beautiful compound near the lake Amatitlán from contributions of numerous benefactors as well as with the aid of the families of nuns that dwell in this monastery.

The monastery church is magnificent and impressive with many Byzantine details and the most beautiful central dome, and the interior of the church is completely fresco-painted. The corner-stone for the monastery church was laid in November 1992, and the church was completed in November 2007 being under the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Antioch.

On his name day – the feast-day of Saint Amphilochius of Iconium  - Metropolitan Amfilohije served the Holy Liturgy in the monastery of Holy Trinity in Guatemala.
