Serbian Orthodox Church is a support to Serbian diaspora
Patriarch IRINEJ made a reception for delegates of the Assembly of the Diaspora and the Serbs in the region and gave them a blessing. In the St. Sava Cathedral, Patriarch served a pontifical liturgy, attended by the representatives of the diaspora to whom he said not to forget their roots.
In the parish house of the St. Sava Memorial Cathedral in Vracar, Serbian Patriarch IRINEJ talked with representatives of the diaspora and said to them not to forget their origin and roots, and to revive, strengthen and maintain the relationship with the mother country.
Minister for Diaspora Srdjan Sreckovic thanked Patriarch IRINEJ for blessing the work of the Assembly of the Diaspora and the Serbs in the region and said that in this way an important message was sent that the state and the church in the future would work together to preserve the cultural, linguistic and religious identity.
He said that the church and the state were separated, yet together , as they existed for the people.
According to him, the Serbian Orthodox Church has long been a uniting factor and the fulcrum of the whole nation and in those times when the state did not regarded the diaspora as a partner and an ally, but as a kind of an opponent.
Mutual aid of the mother country and diaspora
The president of the Assembly of the Diaspora and the Serbs in the region Slavomir Gvozdenovic said that he was sure that diaspora could at least little help to the mother country, as well as the mother country could help the Serbs in the diaspora to preserve rare Serbian institutions from those educational to those cultural.
Gvozdenovic emphasized that the role of that assembly was in the legislative and institutional framework and must be based on mutual respect and appreciation and added that the Assembly of the Diaspora and the Serbs in the region could do many things and it was up to it to form a strategy and create a mutual plan of further activities.
