Serbian Patriarch in Bielefeld

On Thursday night, December 5th, after the visit to the Serbian community in Osnabrück, Serbian Patriarch arrived to the church of Saint Basil of Ostrog in Bielefeld.

Serbian Patriarch Irinej was welcomed by the principal of the church, archpriest Bogdan Smiljic with his congregation. Verz Revd. Smiljic officiated doxology with the concelebration of deacon Damjan Bozic.

The church-school congregation in Bielefeld was founded in 1962 owing to the efforts of the committed priest Dobrivoje Cilerdzic. As a parish priest in Dusseldorf, he began with the establishment of the parish  in Bielefeld. Until 1992 the Serbs in Bielefeld had no permanent liturgical place. Thanks to the commitment of father Dragoljub Jojic, Serbs from Bielefeld bought a church from the Roman Catholic Church.  Besides the church there is a church hall and an office. The interior of the church is completely fresco-painted.

The gathering  in Bielefeld was the last event in the itinerary of the canonical visitation of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, in the Diocese of Middle-Europe.
