Serbian Patriarch Irinej in Hamburg

On Saturday, November 30th, His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch visited the church of Saint Michael the Archangel in Hamburg. 

Lots of faithful people welcomed the Serbian Patriarch in Hamburg, where the bell rang at 5 p.m. at the church of Holy Michael the Archangel to announce the beginning of the service, which was served by head of the church protopresbyter Borisav Simic, archpriest Dragan Jovanovic and protodeacon Damjan Bozic. At the end of the service, f. Simir welcomed His Holiness. Serbian Patriarch Irinej addressed the faithful expressing his delight since the success of having recently bought church building restored and enabled for service. 

The church life of the parish in Hamburg began to develop in 1951 and seven years later it was registered at the German court thanks to priest Toma Ilic who visited his parishioners from Hannover regularly on this territory. Unfortunately, a period of stagnation lasted from 1964 until 1971, when a reorganization was done and the parish was dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel.

Services were performed in various churches in Hamburg until 1976 when a liturgical space in one evangelical church was provided. For the Serbs of Hamburg that was both parish and spiritual center until 2000 when a building was bought i.e. the church where services are held today. The head of the church is archpriest Borisav Simic, and second parish priest is archpriest Dragan Jovanovic.
