Serbian Patriarch Irinej honorary citizen of Zemun
His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, received yesterday an award - the Honorary Citizen of Zemun with a medal - at a solemn session of the Assembly of the City Municipality of Zemun, held on the occasion of the Day of Zemun.
The Patriarch received this dinstinction on the occasion of 5th November, the Day of Zemun, which is marking the date when the Serbian army liberated this town in 1918.
The ceremony, which was held at the Madlenianum Theater and opera, was attended by President of Serbia Mr. Tomislav Nikolic, President of the Municipality of Zemun Mr. Dejan Matic, members of the diplomatic corps and many other personalities from political and cultural life of the capital city.
Besides the Serbian Patriarch, the charters of the Meritorious citizens with medals were presented also to actor Nenad Jezdic, piano player Ljiljana Arsenovic, Prim. Dr. Vladimir Spica, German language professor and chess enthusiast Milos Peovic, restaurateur Mica Stojanovic, sportsman Ivan Soca and SVEBOR Association of Belgrade.
A rich art program was held in which several ensambles and schools performed.
At this ceremony Patriarch Irinej was accompanied by Bishop Jovan of Ulpiana.
