His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, began his canonical visitation to Slovenia on 18 May 2018.

Along with Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb-Ljubljana and priest in charge, presbyter Dejan Mandic, His Holiness visited the Mayor of Koper Mr. Boris Popovic. At the City Hall where Mayor welcomed the Serbian dignitary, the guests were informed about the history of the city of Koper, the current situation in the area, as well as about the conditions of life of the Serbian national minority living there. Following the meeting, the Patriarch visited a location where a new Orthodox church is going to be built.

Patriarch Irinej said that it was his first visit to Koper and that region of Slovenia, and add that following the previous visit to Ljubljana this visit is to be his second stay in Slovenia. The Patriarch was also fascinated with the beauty of this country, cleanliness and roads... He also reminded that Koper used to be a great port not only for Slovenia, but for former Yugoslavia as well.

The Mayor Popovic was very satisfied because of an opportunity to host the Serbian Patriarch and the delegation of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
