On the Sunday of the 12the of February 2017, on the feast-day of Holy Three Hierarchs, the patron day of the side-chapel of the Bishop’s residence in the Milton Monastery, Ontario, His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, served the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy with the concelebration of Their Graces Bishops Longin of New Gracanica, Irinej of Eastern America and Mitrophan of Canada, and of many priests of the Diocese of Canada in the church of the Transfiguration of the Lord.
During the service choir Kyr Stephen the Serb from Toronto sang responses, while more than three hundred faithful despite the heavy snow and bad weather participated prayerfully.
Following the blessing of the slava cake His Holiness called upon the faithful of the Diocese of Canada to imitate wonderful saints of the Church of God and, by following their examples, to come closer to God.
His Holiness particularly thanked the great benefactor of the Serbian Orthodox Church, who is the holder of the Order of Saint Sava for her merits in the renovation of the church of Holy Archangel Michael in Toronto, Mrs. Rebecca Ubavka Macdonald, for all efforts and love, but also for the funds she had invested into the monastery of Milton. Mrs. Macdonald herself with her complete staff was working day and night and financed the restoration of the refectory of the monastery and the diocesan premises.
A banquet was prepared in honor of the feast-day and the consecration of the renovated refectory, when His Grace Bishop Mitrophan held a speech.
Mrs. MacDonald delivered an address underlying her devotion and love towards the Church. She was happy to express her gratitude to Bishop Mitrophan who declared her founder of the monastery of Milton.
