Serbian Patriarch receives the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Greece
His Holiness Porfirije, Serbian Patriarch received His Excellency Nikos Dendias, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Greece, at the Serbian Patriarchate in in Belgrade, on April 5, 2021.
During the first meeting with a member of the Greek government since taking office, Patriarch Porfirijespoke about the centuries-old close ties between the two monotheistic peoples, Greek and Serbian, which, despite numerous challenges and temptations imposed by modern world circumstances, should be nurtured and developed.
In that sense, the spiritual leader of the Orthodox Serbs pointed out the help that the Greek Church and people provided to Serbia and the Serbian people during the unfortunate wars and sanctions of the 1990s. The Patriarch also expressed his personal affection for spirituality and Hellenic culture.
Minister Dendias, thanking for the warm welcome, congratulated the Patriarch on the election and enthronement to the throne of the primates of the Serbian Orthodox Church, expressing hope that he will manage the Church at the helm for a long time and wisely.
The audience was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Greece to the Republic of Serbia, Georgios Djakofotakis and his associates, Hierodeacon Sava (Bundalo) and the Head of the Office of the Serbian Patriarch, Deacon Dr. Aleksandar Prascevic.
