Session of the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches
The continual representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church His Grace Bishop Irinej of Australia and New Zealand and protopresbyter-staurophor Professor Dr. Vladan Perishic, vice dean of the Faculty of the Orthodox Theology of the Belgrade University, upon the invitation of the Secretary General of the World Council of Churches, Rev. Samuel Kobia, participated in the session of the central committee of this organization which was held from August 26 until September 2, 2009 in Genève.
The World Council of Churches is a community of 349 orthodox churches and Anglican and Protestant communities from 120 countries and which represent 560 million Christians from all 6 continents.
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE FOR PEACE
With the patronage of the WCC, the International ecumenical conference will be held in Kingston, Jamaica in May 2011 at the end of the International Decade for Overcoming Violence 2010-2011. The Orthodox Churches , preparing for the upcoming conference have held a first session in Bucharest under patronage of the Romanian Patriarchate, and with the theme name " Orthodox ethics of peace in Eastern and Oriental Christianity" from June 29 till July 3, 2009. On behalf of the SOC professor Dr. Bogoljub Shijakovic held a lecture. With this gathering a new web portal was opened www.orthodoxpeace.org of the Institute for Peace Studies in Eastern Christianity. In September will be held second session with the same theme.
DETERMINED LOCATION OF THE NEXT ASSEMBLY IN 2013
There were suggested four possible places for a next assembly of the WCC in 2013 and they are: Bussan, South Korea, Damascus, Syria; Addis Abeba, Ethiopia; and Rodos, Greece. During the plenary session on August 31 Bussan, South Korea was chosen by most voices.Sessions of the Central Committee of the World Councll of Churches take place every eighteen months.
