Sixty years of the church in Yallourn

On Sunday, April 29, 2012 the Church Community “Holy Trinity” from Yallourn celebrated a great and significant jubilee. This church, founded sixty years ago, is situated in the heart of the region of Gippsland, which is also known among our people as “Australian Sumadija”.

More than a half of a century ago this region was full of newcomers and immigrants who earned their wages in local coal mines, and since the industrialization took place, the need for the work force was reduced and most of the newcomers, especially younger population moved to Melbourn (150 km) or to other cities. Though, the Lord did not let this Serbian parish fade away hence He had kept a few faithful and industrious families who also help this Church. Because of all this this Church Community and all its parishioners has been awarded with Episcopal Gramata by His Grace Bishop Irinej. The local priests concelebrated Bishop Longin.

The fantastic choir “Kornelije Stankovic” from the church of St. Hierodecaon Stephen from Keysborough chanted. There was more than two hundred faithful citizens present at the celebration. The celebration continued with the solemn table of love, where His Grace Bishop Longin held a speech.
