Serbian Musicians Participate in International Conference on Orthodox Church Music
22. June 2009 - 13:46Bogdan Djakovic and Vera Carina, members of the Serbian Orthodox Church, participated in the recently concluded Third International Conference on Orthodox Church Music, hosted by the International Society for Orthodox Church Music (ISOCM), at the University of Joensuu, Finland.
During the conference, Djakovic, who was a founding Board member of ISOCM, presented a paper on: Rediscovering a Serbian national style: problems in sacred architecture, church art and church music in the late 1930s: the case of the Orthodox choral music of Milenko Zivkovic and Carina presented a paper on: The Pancevo Singing Society as part of Serbian Culture.
The Decision of the Holy Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church on redistribution of dioceses
4. June 2009 - 18:23The Holy Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, on its session on May 21, 2009, by the number ABno, 49/ord. 147, brought this decision:
Upon the clause 16 of the Constitution of the Serbian Orthodox Church, and with the established suggestion of the Episcopal Council of the Serbian Orthodox Church in North and South America and two members of the Holy Assembly of Bishops (His Grace Bishop Hrizostom of Zhicha and His Grace Bishop Irinej of Bachka), to execute the redistribution of existing dioceses of the Serbian Orthodox Church: Midwestern American, Eastern American, Western American and Canadian of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the USA and Canada; and Dioceses for America and Canada of the Metropolitanate of New Gracanica, with certain renaming of their titles and moving of their seats, in order to the canonic territory of the Serbian Orthodox Church on the territory of the North and South America now is consisting of:
Closer academic relationships between St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary and the Theological Faculty of the University

June 2009 - 10:14Discussions on closer academic relationships between St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary and the Theological Faculty of the University of Belgrade, Serbia, took place in Crestwood, New York, on June 2nd and 3rd, 2009. Recognizing mutual academic and ecclesial benefits, the representatives of two institutions (Professor Fr. Vladan Perisic and Bishop Maxim Vasiljevic from Belgrade and Fr. John Behr, Fr. Chad Hatfield and Prof. John Barnett from St. Vladimir's) discussed formal relationship guidelines and conditions for a joint enterprise on master level.
First Annual Symposium “Serbian Theology Today” is held

June 2009 - 11:49On Friday and Saturday, on May 29 and 30, 2009 on the the Faculty of the Orthodox Theology was held the First Annual Symposium " Serbian Theology Today" organized by a newly established Institute for theological research which works by the Faculty. In a two-day work of the symposium were present dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr Irinej Bulovic, Bishop of Bachka, minister of Faith and prodean for science, Prof. Dr Bogoljub Shijakovic, retired professors of the faculty Prof. Dr. Amfilohije Radovic, Metropolitan of Zahumlje and the Littoral, and Prof. Dr Atanasije Jevtic, retired Bishop of Zahumlje and Hercegovina, professors of the faculty, professors, graduates and postgraduates from many faculties in our country and from abroad and assistants in tuition at the Faculty of the Orthodox Theology of the University of Belgrade.
Symposium: Serbian Theology Today – The Faculty of the Orthodox Theology, in Belgrade, May 29-30 2009

May 2009 - 17:44His Grace Bishop Dr Irinej of Bachka, a dean of the Faculty of the Orthodox Theology of the University of Belgrade has opened today at this highest church educational institution the First Annual Symposium on the theme Serbian Theology Today. On a plenary session His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral and Their Graces Bishop Ignjatije of Branichevo and retired Bishop Atanasije of Zahumlje and Hercegovina addressed the gathered.
The scientific gathering except eminent guests from Serbia and abroad also was attended by Professor Dr. Bogoljub Shijakovic, minister of Faith in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, His Grace Bishop Jovan of Dioclea as well as professors and students of the Faculty of the Orthodox Theology, the Academy of the SOC for arts and conservation and other faculties of the University of Belgrade.
