Solemn welcome of Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria in Nis
His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa arrived in Nis in the evening on 26 September 2017. A doxology in his honour was held in the Cathedral church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles.
His Beatitude, accompanied by His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, and the delegation of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and the Serbian Orthodox Church, was solemnly welcomed by His Grace Bishop Arsenije of Nis with many priests, representatives of the City and the Armed Forces of Serbia, as well as by the faithful people of the imperial Nis and the Diocese of Nis.
The entourage of the Primates of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and the Serbian Orthodox Church consisted of: Their Eminences Metropolitans Porfirije of Zagreb-Ljubljana, Georgios of Guinea and Niphont of Pelousion; Their Graces Bishops Irinej of Backa and Fotije of Zvornik-Tuzla as well as Very Venerable Archimandrite Daniel, Secretary of the Synod of the Church of Alexandria.
Among the representatives of the City of Nis there were Mayor Mr. Darko Bulatovic with colleagues, representatives of the Armed Forces of Serbia – Major General Zelimir Glisovic, Colonel Predrag Grbic as well as representatives of the Gendarmery.
Following the rite of doxology, that was officiated by abbot of the Sukovo Monastery protosyncellos Seraphim (Misic) in the Cathedral church, the host Bishop and His Beatitude exchanged addresses. Patriarch Theodoros got an icon of Sts. Emperor Constantine and Helen from Bishop Arsenije whereas His Beatitude presented the Alexandrian Cross to the Bishop of Nis.
