Sretensky Monastery Hosts a Regular Meeting of the Inter-Council Presence to Discuss Church Law

On March 23, 2012, Sretensky Stavropighial Monastery in Moscow held a regular meeting of the Inter-Council Presence of the Russian Orthodox Church, presided over by His Eminence Archbishop Mark of Berlin, Germany and Great Britain, to discuss church law.

The members of the commission continued to work on the documents “Formalizing the Practice of the Rite of Matrimony (Multiple Marriages)” and “On the Christian Burial of the Dead.” Upon deliberation, it was decided to introduce corrections to the draft documents and forward them to the Redacting Committee.

Reports were also presented on the Church Scholarly Center “Orthodox Encyclopedia,” on the drafts “Codification of the Sources of Church Law” and “Commentaries on the Law on the Freedom of Conscience and Religious Organizations.”

Participating in the meeting were His Eminence Metropolitan Kliment of Kaluga and Borovsk, President of the Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church; Archimandrite Tikhon (Shevkunov), Prior of Sretensky Monastery and Senior Secretary of the Patriarchal Council on Culture, (Secretary of the Commission); Protopriest Nikolai Balashov, Vice President of the Department of External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate; Protopriest Leonid Roldugin; Protopriest Vladislav Tsypin; Protopriest Alexander Zadornov and Priest Ioann Miroliubov.
