The St. Petka parish in San Marcos celebrates church Slava
The
parishioners of the St. Petka-Paraskeva Serbian Orthodox parish in San
Marcos in southern California, celebrated their church Slava yesterday
with the Divine Liturgy officiated by their diocesan hierarch, His
Grace Bishop Maxim. Concelebrating were the priests: Velimir Petakovic,
Milan Vukovic, Hieromonks Nektarije and Jovan as well as Deacon Paul
Germain.
In
accordance to the old custom a procession was led around the church
after which the Slava Kolach and wheat were blessed. The Slava luncheon
was served afterward in the church hall together with a program
performed by the children of the folklore group.
Bishop Maxim
awarded Slavko Kljajic, an Orthodox Serb, with the Episcopal
Citation-Gramata for his efforts in the field of church music and many
years of nurturing the old Serbian chant which he has done with much
love and zeal, the bishop also awarded him the ancient, traditional
title of Protopsalti of the St. Petka-Paraskeva Parish in San Marcos, California.
