Students of Theology from Bucharest celebrated Monday their protector saints, the Three Holy Hierarchs. His Grace Varlaam of Ploieşti, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at Saint Catherine chapel of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Bucharest.

Representatives of the University in Bucharest, professors and students from the Faculty of Orthodox Theology participated in the Divine Liturgy celebrated Jan. 30.

Bishop Varlaam focused his homily on the life of Saints Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom, as model of Christian life. By celebrating their feast, he said, we recall the faith and the heroism the Three Holy Hierarchs were characterised with.

Referring to contemporary problems believers are overwhelmed with, His Grace urged everyone to bear in mind the sacrificial example given by the Three Holy Hierarchs, who lived in times much more complicated than ours. He presented the Three Hierarchs as models for every one of us of how not to diminish our vocation and desire to serve the Church.

In his turn, Rev. Ștefan Buchiu, dean of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Bucharest, stressed the important support offered by Patriarch Justinian to theological schools during communism.

Mr Romiță Iucu-Bumbu, pro-rector of the University in Bucharest, addressed those present expressing the openness of the University in Bucharest to support Theology students in their mission.

A memorial service was officiated after the Divine Liturgy to commemorate professors of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology who had passed away to the Lord.
