Support of Patriarch Porfirije to the Greek Church due to catastrophic fires
An invitation to the faithful to make donations to help the victims in Greece
His Holiness Porfirije, Serbian Patriarch, sent a letter today to His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and all of Greece in which he expresses his co-suffering love and support to the Church and the people on the occasion of catastrophic fires in which people have been suffering for days and the property of many Greek families, the Church and the state is disappearing.
The Patriarch asked Archbishop Ieronymos to convey to the clergy and the fraternal Greek people, especially in the areas most affected by the fire, the prayers of the entire Serbian Orthodox family, which has not and will never forget that in the recent past it had almost the only friend in great war troubles in the fraternal Greek people and the sister Greek Church "The abundant help that you, our Greek brothers and sisters, sent to Serbian countries was for us not only food, clothes, shoes and other necessities, but also a sign that we have our closest friends who do not want to participate in the injustice that we were exposed. " The spiritual leader of the Serbian Orthodox people sent expressions of the deepest condolences to the families of the victims, but also deep faith that the Lord will settle those whose earthly lives were extinguished in the flames, in the settlements of the righteous.
Today, Patriarch Porfirije issued an order to all churches in Belgrade and his regional Archbishopric of Belgrade and Karlovci to collect donations for the injured brothers and sisters in Greece during all worship services until further notice.
