Symposium marking the 800th anniversary of autocephaly of the Serbian Church
The scientific symposium will be held at the Orthodox Theological Faculty in Belgrade December 10-14th 2018.
In honor of the anniversary of the autocephaly of the Serbian Orthodox Church (1219-2019), under the full patronage of the Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Orthodox Theological Faculty of the University of Belgrade organizes from December 10 to December 14, 2018 an international scientific symposium dedicated to the event of the Church independence and the eighth-century long contribution of the Serbian Orthodox Church to history, theology and culture of the Serbian people. More than a hundred prominent foreign and domestic research workers are going to participate in this international scientific event, whereby announcing the unallocated wish of collective scientific awareness of the current meaning of Orthodox Christianity in the Serbian context and beyond.
The opening addresse wil be held by His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch Irinej, academician Dr. Vladimir Kostic, president of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Prof. Dr. Ivanka Popovic, rector of the Belgrade University, and His Grace Bishop of Branicevo Ignatije Midic, dean of the Theological Faculty. The introductury lecture will be held by the prominent Greek historian an d theologian Dr. John Tarnanidis.
