Thanksgiving served at Hilandar Monastery on the occasion of enthronement of the new Patriarch of Serbia
On Sunday January 24, 2010 at the Holy monastery of Hilandar on Mount Athos in Greece , the assembly of the Hilandar monks and deacons, led by deputy heugomen of Hilandar hieromonk Metodije, served the special thanksgiving on the occasion of the election and the enthronement of the new Patriarch of Serbia. During the Divine Liturgy and the thanksgiving service for the first time at the ancient Hilandar church was prayerfully recited the name of His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia.
The Holy monastery of Hilandar, since its foundation in 1198, has been the integral part of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople. Hence, according to the church order, at the services on Mount Athos, the name of the Patriarch of Constantinople is always recited. However, fostering the bond of love with the homeland and the Serbian Orthodox Church, the monks of Hilandar at the church services besides mentioning of their first hierarch, Patriarch of Constantinople, always do prayerful mentioning of Patriarch of Serbia and the entire Serbian people.
The Holy Monastery of Hilandar sent a greeting to His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia on the occasion of the election to the St. Sava's throne, expressing joy in it as "The Providence of God at the place of the Patriarch of Serbia raised a man after the image of Hierarch Christ "holy, harmless, undefiled "(Hebr. 7:26 ), with prayerfull wishes that his service the holy Serbian archbishops and patriarchs sustain, of which many were "offsprings of the Hilandar sacred line".
