The Transfiguration of the Lord in Trebinje

The Transfiguration of the Lord in the Transfiguration City: The hierarchal Liturgy. - Meeting of Bishop Dimitrije with Mr. Dodik. - Festive evening and a cross procession in Trebinje.

The Church community of Trebinje, Hercegovina, marked the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord with the Holy hierarchal Liturgy, as the central event of the feast, to which the Trebinje Cathedral is dedicated. The Eucharistic gathering in the central city park, in front of the Transfiguration Church, was officiated by Bishop Dimitrije of Zahumlje-Herzegovina and Coaslands, with the assistance of retired Bishop Atanasije, priests, hieromonks, chanters and readers.

The liturgical responses of the Laos of God were led by the Trebinje choir "St. Anastasia Srpska", with the choirmaster Branka Jankovic. After a Gospel portion was read from the famous  Miroslav's Gospel, the oldest preserved Cyrillic manuscript, Bishop Atanasije spoke about the significance of the feast itself.

The child of God Ljubica was baptized.  At the end of the Liturgy, grapes were blessed and distributed, whereafter Bishop Dimitrije addressed the faithful.

With cultural contents and other activities, the Transfiguration of the Lord was celebrated, as its protector’s feast, by the City of Trebinje, with other city institutions, whose representatives, along with the Mayor of Trebinje, Mr. Mirko Curic, also participated in the liturgical gathering in front of the Cathedral. Among the faithful of Trebinje and their guests, Prince Filip Karadjordjevic and his family joined the liturgical celebration. On behalf of the Roman-Catholic Diocese of Trebinje and Mrkanj Don Ivo Sutalo attended the Liturgy. The Serbian member of the presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Milorad Dodik together with the mayor of Trebinje Mr. Mirko Curic expressed best wishes to Bishop Dimitrije on the holiday and the dedication feast of the city and the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Trebinje

The evening prayer in the church-yard of the Transfiguration Church was led by the Bishop of Budimlje-Niksic, Joanikije, with the Bishop of Zahumlje-Herzegovina and Coastlands, Dimitrije, and the retired Bishop Atanasije as well as the clergy.

On the main city plateau - Freedom Square, a liturgical commemoration of all the deceased residents and fighters for the freedom of the city was performed, after which bishops Joanikije and Dimitrije delivered addresses.
