The Feast of Saint Lazarus celebrated in Gracanica
The feast-day of Saint Lazarus of Kosovo (Vidovdan) was solemnly celebrated in Gracanica monastery. The memorial service was served for the Kosovo heroes at Gazimestan.
In the monastery of Gracanica, the feast of Saint Lazarus, Great-martyr of Kosovo, was solemnly celebrated. His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, officiated the Divine Liturgy. Their Graces Bishops Justin of Timok, Teodosije of Raska-Prizren and the retired Bishop Atanasije of Zahumlje-Herzegovina along with clergy and monks from several dioceses of our Church concelebrated to the Bishop. High representatives of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the Republic of Srpska attended the Liturgy: Minister of Culture Mr. Bratislav Petkovic, Director of the Office for Cooperation with Churches and Religious Communities Dr. MiletaRadojevic and Minister of Transport of the Republic of Srpska Mr. Nedeljko Cubrilovic with colleagues.
At the end of the Holy Liturgy, the “Mother of the Nine Jugovics” Awards were presented to mothers with more children. After the solemn lunch, Church dignitaries, clergy, monks and faithful people went to Gazimestan, where Patriarch Irinej served the memorial service for the heroes of Kosovo.
Following the memorial service, an incident happened when a group of Albanians attacked Serbian school buses on their way back to Gracanica. Few children had light injuries, and a 19 year old girl from Preoce near Gracanica had to stay in hospital.
