1050th Anniversary of Christianity in Poland
During 14-16 April 2016, Polish people celebrated the 1050th anniversary of Poland’s Baptism by duke Mieszko I, the first ruler of the Polish state, by organizing several religious and political ceremonies. His Beatitude Sawa, Metropolitan of Warsaw and all Poland, participated in the events, orthodox.pl reports.
For the first time in Poland’s history, the two Chambers of the Polish Parliament – Senate and Sejm – gathered outside Warsaw on Friday, 15 April. This extraordinary meeting was summoned in Poznań to commemorate 1050 years since the Christianization of the Polish people.
High state authorities participated in the event: the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, Prime-minister Beata Awl, representatives of the diplomatic corps, Roman-Catholic Bishops, representatives of the Churches and religious associations in Poland. The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Poland was represented by His Beatitude Metropolitan Sawa, accompanied by Fr. Michael Dmitruk and Fr. Doroteusz Sawicki.
On this occasion, the Polish President unveiled a commemorative plaque.
The religious and political ceremonies dedicated to the 1050th anniversary of Polish Christendom lasted three days and were organised in the cities of Gniezno, the cradle of Polish Christianity, and Poznań.
