Appeal to help the victims of the recent Earthquake in Serbia
After the ravaging earthquake in Serbia the Serbian Orthodox Bishop of Central Europe, His Grace Konstantin (Djokic), has issued an urgent appeal to help the victims. The appeal is strongly supported by Their Royal Highnesses Prince Karl Wladimir and Princess Brigitte of Yugoslavia: Germany-based members of the Serbian and Yougoslav Royal House of Karadjordjevic.
Two people were killed and around 100 were injured when the earthquake, registering a magnitude of 5,4, struck Central Serbia on the 3rd November at 01.56. The epicentre was near the city of Kraljevo, about 80 miles south of the capital, Belgrade.
The Holy Trinity Church in Kraljevo, built 1823, and the famous medieval monastery of Zica near the city were also damaged in the earthquake. According to Serbian experts, about 1.000 houses in the town of Kraljevo will have to be pulled down because of the damage. With cold Serbian winter coming, the situation is becoming dramatic. Parts of the city are still without water and electricity. The people of Kraljevo need our help.
