Attempt to change Serbian history in the UNESCO

Serbia prevented, after the diplomatic war in the UNESCO Committee for the Protection of World Cultural Heritage an attempt to rename the monasteries of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC) in Kosovo and Metohija from the Serbian heritage as "Kosovo's heritage", Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Vuk Jeremic said today in Becici.

"The sanctities of the SOC are not and cannot be the cultural monuments of Kosovo" Jeremic stressed.

On Tuesday in Paris, Jeremic pointed out, "we defended ourselves from an attempt to steal our identity and change the history".

Jeremic specified that in last 72 hours, literally, a true diplomatic war was fought in the UNESCO Committee for the Protection of World Cultural Heritage.

"We were witnesses of the attempt of one group of countries to rename the Serbian monasteries in Kosovo and Metohija to monasteries of Kosovo. The countries that helped us to prevent this to happen were Russia, China, Brazil, South Africa, Nigeria, Mali, Egypt, Cambodia and Mexico", Jeremic explained.

"As long as we are proud of what we are and as long as we have the will to defend our right to be in the way we feel,  Jeremic stresses, "attempts to falsify the history and to steal the identity will be unsuccesful, as this one in Paris".
