Bishop Sahak Mashalian Elected New Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople

The delegates of the Armenian Orthodox Patriarchate of Constantinople in Turkey elected Bishop Sahak Mashalian as the 85th Archbishop-Patriarch of Constantinople. The Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople is one of the regional Sees within the Armenian Church. The Patriarchate of Constantinople recognizes the Primacy of the Mother of Holy Etchmiadzin.

Bishop Shak will succeed the late lamented Patriarch Mesrob II of Constantinople. However, critics stated that the election procedure was overshadowed by Turkish intervention.
