Caritas: Pope to Launch ‘Share the Journey’ Campaign

On September 27, Pope Francis will launch Caritas Internationalis’ campaign “Share the Journey,” geared to promoting encounter with migrants and refugees, announced L’Osservatore Romano in its edition of Wednesday, July 26, 2017. In a letter sent in past days by the Cardinal Archbishop of Manila and President of Caritas Internationalis, Luis Antonio Tagle, to Catholic charitable organizations to present the campaign, he affirms that “we will find the path of peace through the culture of encounter.”

The initiative’s objective, writes the Cardinal, is to promote this culture of encounter in communities affected in recent years by the phenomenon, be it countries of departure or of reception and transit.

In particular, the campaign proposes to look at the migratory phenomenon with “new eyes and an open heart,” to “dissipate the fear” of the people and to “understand why so many people are abandoning their homes,” wrote Cardinal Tagle in his letter.

In the message, the Filipino Cardinal invites the members of the 165 national organizations that make up the great “network” of Caritas Internationalis, to “join arms and hearts “ to form “a human chain of love and mercy.”

It must not be forgotten, wrote the Cardinal, that we receive Christ “when we open our hearts to migrants and refugees.”
