Catholicos of All Armenians Received Georgian Minister of Defense

On 01 February in the Mother See, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; received Mrs. Tinatin Khidasheli, Minister of National Defence of the Georgian Republic; and her delegation. They were accompanied by Mr. Davit Tonotyan, First Deputy of the Defence Minister of the Republic of Armenia and Rev. Fr. Movses Sargsyan, Vicar General of the RA Armed Forces.

During the meeting, His Holiness welcomed the cooperation between the defense ministries of the two countries, noting with satisfaction the existing cooperation at different state levels.

His Holiness reflected on the issues of protection and preservation of the faith and identity of the Armenian and Georgian peoples over the centuries, and stressed that they, having the same Christian value system, have always supported and helped each other.

Reflecting on the relations between the Armenian and Georgian Churches, His Holiness expressed hope that the existing problems in the spiritual life of the Georgian Armenians will find just solutions.

On behalf of the delegation Minister Khidasheli expressed gratitude to His Holiness for the reception and noted that she is aware of the exclusive role undertaken by the Armenian Church in the life of the Armenian people.

During the meeting they reflected on the imperatives of maintaining peace in the region and discussed the spiritual service experiences of the RA Armed Forces and the Georgian Army.

At the conclusion, His Holiness offered his prayers to Heaven, so that the Armenian and Georgian people can live peaceful and creative lives.

The meeting was attended by His Eminence Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan, Director of the External Relations and Protocol Department of the Mother See.
