Celebration of St. George's Day in Sombor

On the feast day of saint, celebrated Great martyr, Victory-bearer and Wonderworker George, the patron of the city of Sombor, on May 6, 2011, the Divine Liturgy was served in the church of St. George.

The liturgical gathering was led by His Grace Bishop Irinej of Backa, with the concelebration of Bishops Pahomije of Vranje, Jovan of Dioclea, Porfirije of Jegar and priesthood of the Diocese of Backa. With prayers and chanting of the choirs from Sombor and Backa Palanka, also lots of people participated in this eucharistic celebration.

Following the Divine Liturgy and a solemn procession around the church, there was a consecration of the fountain in the church courtyard.

The church community of  Sombor will remember this they also due to the Order of St. Sava of the Second Class by His Grace Bishop Irinej of Backa. The church community was also surprised by the gift of His Grace Jovan of Dioclea, who gave it the icon of St. Basil of Ostrog and the altar cross.
