Celebration of Transfiguration of the Lord in Trebinje

The Cathedral Church of the Holy Transfiguration of the Lord and the Trebinje Municipality celebrated formally its patron saint fast - the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. In the evening of the feast, His Grace Bishop Nikolai (the American Orthodox Church) served an evening service with a five-bread vessel with the concelebration of Father Tihon, the hegumen of the monastery of Studenica and the priesthood.

After the evening service in front of the Cathedral church a lecture on the feast of the Transfiguration was held. A lecturer was the famous professor His Eminence Metropolitan Nikolai of Mesogea and Lavriotiki (the Greek Orthodox Church) who found time besides many duties to be a guest of the feast and make the joy of this holy Feast even greater. On the day of the Transfiguration at the Cathedral Church the Holy Hierarchal liturgy was served led by His Eminence Metropolitan Nikolai of Lavreotiki with the concelebration of Their Graces Hierarchs: Bishop Dr Irinej of Bachka, retired Bishop Nikolai of Alaska, the host Bishop Grigorije of Zahumlje and Herzegovina, retired Bishop Atanasije of Zahumlje and Herzegovina, and also hegumen of Studenica archimandrite Tihon, the head of the Cathedral Church in Belgrade protopresbyter-staurophor Petar Lukic and the priesthood from other dioceses and the diocese of Zahumlje and Hercegovina and the Littoral.

The Holy liturgy was attended by prince Vladimir Karadzordjevic and princess Brigitte, representatives of the authorities and the head of the municipality of Trebinje Dr Dobrosav Cuk, representatives of the Roman Catholic Church, the famous Serbian basketball player Dejan Bodiroga, as well as others guests.His Grace Bishop Dr Irinej also made a speech before the faithful.

After the Holy Liturgy there was a formal table of love and a cultural and art program.

After the evening service there was a formal procession on the streets of Trebinje. The procession was attended by His Eminence Archbishop Amfilohije of Cetinje and Metroopolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, His Eminence Metropolitan Nikolai of Mesogea and Lavriotiki ,Their Graces Hierarchs: Bishop Vasilije of Zvornik and Tuzla, Bishop Dr Irinej od Bachka, Bishop Joanikije of Budimlje and Nikshic, Bishop Grigorije of Zahumlje and Herzegovina, retired Bishop Atanasije of Zahumlje and Herzegovina, a great number of priests and deacons, monks and nuns from Zahumlje and Herzegovina and other dioceses. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik with the representatives of the Republic authorities as well as Minister of Faith of the Republic of Serbia Bogoljub Shijakovic also attended the procession.

The formal dinner was organized after the procession and after that there was a concert of Vlado Georgijev at the House of Culture.
