Children’s Day in the Archdiocese of Bucharest

Patriarch Daniel sent on Monday consistent gifts for 280 children from the Archdiocese of Bucharest. Beneficiaries were the 40 children who receive social support at the eparchy’s “St Sophia” Day Care Center and the children of clerics who serve in rural parishes of the second and third category. “I wish to send a message of gratitude for the gifts and also of appreciation for all who dedicate time or resources to the center’s children, offering them small surprises, guidance and support,” declared Laura Irimia, center coordinator.

The photo gallery from the event is accessible here. On the same day, the other packages offered by the Patriarch of Romania reached the children of clerics from the deaneries of Ilfov-Nord, Câmpina, Vălenii de Munte, Ploiești Nord and Ploiești Sud. They were handed in local ceremonies.

“It has already become a tradition for the children of clerics to receive gifts on Children’s Day,” declared for Trinitas TV Father Adrian Matei, Dean of Ploiești-Nord. “Children came gladly and lightened the gloomy weather with their joy.”

“Children of clerics need special attention, because their parents dedicate themselves to the children of their extended family, which is the parish,” explained Father Mihail Peneș, Dean of Vălenii de Munte.

The packages contained sports equipment, games, sweets and fruit, as well as storybooks and prayer books for children.

“St Sophia” Center took the opportunity to organize a festivity on the occasion of the gits’ arrival. The children sang accompanied to the piano by professor Horia Tudor and enacted theatrical plays with the help of actress Gabriela Ioniță. The atmosphere was enlivened by volunteering animators.

Patriarch Daniel’s action is a sign of fatherly love towards the priests’ children, and also an example, teaching us to value children and educate them through our deeds,” said Father Cristian Burcea, Dean of Ilfov-Nord.
