Crosses and bells of the church in Silas consecrated

In Silas, a place near Osijek, on the feast day of St. Jacob the Apostle ( All Souls Day), His Grace Bishop Lukija of Osek,Polje and Baranja consecrated crosses and bells for the new church of St. Elijah the Prophet.In celebratory 20th anniversary since the founding of the Diocese of Osek,Polje and Baranja, this is a great event for the faithful of this place, and also the whole Serbian community on the East of Croatia. Besides the residents of Silas, there were many guests, social workers and politicians of the Serbian community: member of the assembly SDSS  Mile Horvat, vice-zupans Jovo Jelic of Osek-Baranja, Djordje Curcic of Vukovar-Srem, and the mayor of the municipality Mile Zlokapa and many others.

The parish Silas was formed with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Lukijan as a independent in 1994. Until then it was a part of the parish of Bobot. The settlement of Silas was founded in the twenties of the twentieth century by Serbian volunteers. 

There were attempts to raise a church before but due to the communist rule it did not happen. Six years ago the residents of Silas decided to finally build a church, since one would ask who were they without the Church? What is the life without It? So in that way an initiative started. So it was decided to raise a church in Silas devoted to St. prophet Elijah.
