Eminent Byzantinologists in Decani monastery
In the monastery of Decani and in Prizren a conference of a group of Byzantinologists on preserving art and cultural heritage on Kosovo and Metohija took place on May 30 and 31, 2013. Besides issues concerning the protection of cultural and spiritual heritage, improvement of the dialogue among members of various religions and confessions, as well as the dialogue and contacts between Eastern and Western Christians arts was also discussed.
The conference, organized by “The Friends of Monastery of Decani” (Amici di Decani), commenced its work at the monastery of Decani. Following the keynote address by Dr. Francesco Scarfi and the welcome address of the abbot of the monastery Archimandrite Sava, Ambassador of Italy H.E. Michael Giffoni addressed the participants too. Catherine Jolivet Levy from the University of Sorbonne, Professor Valentino Pace, conservator Carlo Giantomassi, as well as professors Falla, Acconci, Nero and Falkenhausen presented papers on the significance of artistic and cultural achievements of medieval Orthodox monasteries on Kosovo and Metohija.
