Biblical-era town discovered along Sea of Galilee

A town dating back more than 2,000 years has been discovered on the northwest coast of the Sea of Galilee, in Israel's Ginosar valley.
The ancient town may be Dalmanutha (also spelled Dalmanoutha), described in the Gospel of Mark as the place Jesus sailed to after miraculously feeding 4,000 people by multiplying a few fish and loaves of bread, said Ken Dark, of the University of Reading in the U.K., whose team discovered the town during a field survey.

The Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskhet-Tbilisi, Metropolitan of Pitsunda and Tskhum-Abkhazia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II informed the congregation of this at the Sunday service.

His beatitude John x met Mr. Constantin Triantafilou Director of IOCC, International Orthodox Christian Charities, one of the organization working in the field of relief in Syria. His Beatitude discussed with him the possibilities to enlarge the work of relief in the patriarchate and to help developing the infrastructure of Alhosn hospital in the Christian valley. From his part, Mr. Tiantafilou highlighted the importance of the work achieved in the relief through the DERD, the Department of Ecumenical Relations and Development in the Greek orthodox patriarchate of Antioch and all the East.
Conference, "Monasteries and Monasticism--Traditions and Modern Times" to take place at the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra

On September 23-24, 2013, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the international theological, research and practical conference, "Monasteries and Monasticism--Traditions and Modern Times" will take place at The Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra, reports the Synodal Information Department of the Russian Orthodox Church. The organizer of the conference is the Russian Orthodox Church's Synodal Department for Monasteries and Monasticism.
Leading hierarchs, abbots and abbesses, as well as priests from a number of local Orthodox churches will take part in the conference. The aim of the conference is to continue the discussion in the Church on the "Statute on Monasteries and Monasticism" project, prepared by the Russian Orthodox Church's commission of the inter-conciliar presence for Monasteries and Monasticism. The themes, which are to be discussed at the conference, include: ideas fundamental to monasticism of vows, degrees of monasticism, forms of monastic life, issues of the relationship between a monastery/convent and the local diocesan authority, specifics of monastic rules, and control over a monastery/convent.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed on Tuesday two contribution agreements with the Church of Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriot religious foundation Evkaf, marking the beginning of much-delayed plans to restore the crumbling Apostolos Andreas monastery in the Karpas peninsula.
