Feast day of the Icon of Theotokos of Kazan

The Orthodox Church celebrated on October 4 the memory of miraculous  redemption of the Moscow from Litvanians which happened in 1612 with the help  of the miraculous icon of Theotokos of Kazan. The copy of this icon is kept in the church of St. Sava on Vracar where was brought by the love of the brotherly Russian people came during the NATO bombardment of Serbia.

His Grace Bishop Atanasije of Hvosno served on October 4 the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy with priests of the St. Sava church and the guest from Budapest, father Kirril of the Moscow Patriarchate. Father Kirril was born as Hungarian, and he used in one moment of the service his mother tongue.

The choir of the church of St. Sava chanted. Many people gathered in the church who cut the slava cake along with the Bishop. 

The copy of the miraculous icon of the Theotokos of Kazan, as we are informed of the historian protopresbyter-staurophor Aleksandar Sredojevic, came to Serbia in 1999. Russian monks brought it during the hardest agression of the NATO countries. This icon is greatly respected in Russia since 1612 when Litvanians captured Moscow. Thanks to prayers of St. Sergius of Radonezh and the help of the Mother of God presented in this icon, the Litvanians panicked and they retreated themselves from Moscow. Two hundred years later in 1812 the icon of the Theotokos from Kazan came again in Moscow, this time from Napoleon army. This time half a million Napoleon's soldiers were cought by panic and also retreated from Moscow. Only fifteen thousand of them survived.
