Metropolitan Amfilohije serves in Trieste - 140 years of Church of St Spyridon

His Eminence Archbishop Amfilohije of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral served on Sunday on September 20 the Holy service of God in a renovated church of St Spyridon the Wonderworker in Trieste. Metropolitan Amfilohije served the Liturgy on behalf of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the SOC in an agreement withthe responsible hierarch His Grace Metropolitan Jovan of Zagreb and Ljubljana,in commemoration of 140th anniversary of the consecration of this church and of more than 200 years since the first service in Church Slavonic.

The Holy service was attended by many Serbian and Italian officials: minister of Faith in the Government of Serbia Bogoljub Shijakovic, ambassador of Serbia to the Holy See Vladeta Jankovic, general consul of Serbia in Trieste Vladimir Nikolic and Bishop of Trieste Eugenio Ravignani. The Mayor of Trieste Roberto Dipiazza and the head of autonomous region of Friuli Venezia Giulia Renzo Tondo received, by the suggestion of Metropolitan Jovan, orders of St Sava which was given by the Holy Synod of the SOC for the help in restoration of the church and concern they have for the orthodox community in Trieste. 

After the consecration of the restored church and the Divine liturgy, Metropolitan Amfilohije visited the exhibition of precious liturgical and artistic objects, as well as books from the treasury of the church of St Spyridon in the old town of Trieste. His Eminence also visited orthodox church St Nikola in Trieste, which is under the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Constantinople.

The Serbian community in Trieste has seven thousand people.
