Moscow wants to join restoration of Kosovo Orthodox monuments - Foreign Ministry
The Russian Foreign Ministry is weighing up a plan to help in the restoration of Orthodox monuments in Kosovo. "The Russian president has instructed the Foreign Ministry to come up with a plan to help in the restoration of Orthodox monuments in Kosovo under a UNESCO project, and make funds available for this project," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
Russia will also provide all required organizational assistance and send architects, engineers, designers, technologists and art experts to Kosovo, the ministry said.
Over 150 unique Orthodox churches and monasteries, including Orthodox monuments entered on the UNESCO world heritage list have been destroyed in Kosovo since 2000. UNESCO Director General Koichiro Matsuura urged the world community to help restore the damaged historical and architectural monuments in Kosovo.
