Russian Patriarch calls for powerful Orthodox youth movement
17. February 2009 - 9:14The new Patriarch of Moscow called for creating a powerful Orthodox youth movement in Russia which would have a grassroots group in "each of our educational institutions." "I would be happy if you and I could start a congress at Luzhniki [a stadium in Moscow] with 100,000 young people present. But we have to work very well for such a congress to become a reality," Patriarch Kirill said at a meeting in Moscow with Orthodox youth.
Celebrating of Feast Day of the Great Martyr Theodore of Tyre in Cameroon
17. February 2009 - 9:10His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa is undertaking a missionary trip to the Cameroon , from 10th February 2009. During this trip, His Beatitude, accompanied by His Eminence Gregory, Metropolitan of the Cameroon, will meet with State Officials of the Cameroon, the Greek and Egyptian diplomatic representatives, members of the Hellenic Communities; he will visit the missionary centres in the far off areas of Northern Cameroon - Maroua, Gorua and Katrang - he will serve Divine Liturgies and will perform openings of Holy Churches, he will inaugurate Parish Centres and Institutions, and will hold synaxes for the clergy of the areas he will travel through.
Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria visits Metropolis of Kenya

February 2009 - 9:06His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa was welcomed on the morning of 10th February 2009, to the sound of the bells ringing, by the pupils and students of the Educational Institutes of the Holy Metropolis of Kenya, in Nairobi, singing and chanting in Greek.
His Beatitude spoke emotionally about the work of the Patriarchal Academy of Kenya, "Makarios III" which this year celebrates its 28th anniversary and which has 55 seminarians. He also spoke of the Educational Academy with its 400 students and the Primary School "Clement of Alexandria" which has 150 pupils.

It was founded on 23rd January 1959 as the "Greek Orthodox Holy Metropolis of Accra and West Africa ". Today this Metropolis numbers in its jurisdiction the countries of Cameroon , Chad , Central African Republic , Gabon , Equatorial Guinea and the Islands of St Tome and Principe.
Commemoration 1140 Years since Death of Saint Cyril
16. February 2009 - 9:50Saturday, February 14 marks the 1140 anniversary of the death of Saint Cyril in Rome in 869. The two brothers, Saints Cyril and Methodius were born in Thessaloniki in the 9th century. They became missionaries of Christianity among the Slavs and influenced the cultural development of all Slavic people.
