Mayor of Chicago Proclaims Saint Sava Academy Day

January 2016 - 11:41The Honorable Rahm Emanuel, Mayor of Chicago, has officially proclaimed January 27th, the feast day of the revered Serbian patron saint of education and culture, as Saint Sava Academy Day in Chicago in recognition of the school’s work and for its contributions to the community.
The Mayor’s proclamation also noted that Saint Sava Academy is “the only full-time elementary school in Chicago offering dual language education in both Serbian and Russian languages,” “offers a safe community where students are able to express their culture and religious beliefs,” and “sustains an Orthodox faith-based education that provides students a strong spiritual compass both inside and outside the classroom.”
Church slava in Portland
13. January 2016 - 12:02The past weekend of January 9 and 10, 2016 at the St. Stephen Archdeacon and Protomartyr Serbian Orthodox Church in Portland, Oregon was very blessed because our Diocesan Bishop His Grace Bishop Maxim visited our Portland Parish.
The reason of His visit was the celebration of our Parish Slava, which began with a Vespers, served by Prota Lazar Vasiljevic and Fr. Vidoslav Vujasin in the presence of his Grace and the faithful.
Srpska marked its Day of Republic and the Patron Saint-day
12. January 2016 - 9:34On the occasion of the Day and the Patron Saint-day of Republic of Srpska – Saint Archdeacon Stephen, His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej officiated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy with the concelebration of the clergy at the Cathedral church of Christ the Saviour in Banjaluka.
Marking of the Patron Saint-day (slava) – Holy First Martyr and Archdeacon Stephen and the Day of Republic of Srpska - began with the Holy Hierarchal Liturgyofficiated by His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, at the Cathedral church of Christ the Saviour in Banjaluka. The Divine Liturgy and the slava rite was attended by President of Republic of Srpska Mr. Milorad Dodik, high government officials of Republic of Srpska and Republic of Serbia and a great number of the faithful.
Nativity of Christ in New York
11. January 2016 - 13:04On 6 January 2016, the Feast of Nativity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was solemnly celebrated at Saint Sava Cathedral church in New York City.
His Grace Bishop Mitrophan of Eastern America officiated the Holy Liturgy with the concelebration of local priests, and in the presence of lots of faithful people of this city. After the service the badnjak (Yule log) was burned in front of the church.

7. January 2016 - 22:35On 7 January 2015, the joyous feast day of the Nativity of the Lord - Christmas, His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, officiated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy at the Cathedral church of Holy Archangel Michael in Belgrade.
The solemn feast day's service, besides a lot of faithful people, was also attended by President of the Republic of Serbia Mr. Tomislav Nikolic, Crown Prince Aleksandar Karadjordjevic and Princess Katherine, First Vice President of the Government and Foreign Minister Mr. Ivica Dacic, Minister of Justice Mr. Nikola Selakovic, representatives of the state and city authorities, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Belgrade Mr. Stanislav Hocevar and representatives of traditional Churches and religious communities, members of the diplomatic corps, as well as people from cultural and public life of the Serbian capital.
Christmas Midnight Liturgy at Saint Sava Cathedral

January 2016 - 11:43The celebration of Christmas, the feast day of the Nativity of Jesus Christ, the most joyful event in the Christian world began at midnight with the first Christmas Liturgy, served by His Grace Bishop Arsenije of Toplica and in a prayerful presence of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch.
Vicar of the Patriarch was concelebrated by the clergy of the Archbishopric of Belgrade-Karlovac, with the presence of a lot of faithful people of the capital.
