Feast day of Saint Sava celebrated throughout Australia and New Zealand

Melbourn (Elaine):  The central Saint Sava celebration in Australia and New Zealand was at the monastery of Saint Sava in Elaine, near Melbourn, where eight thousand believers gathered. His Grace Bishop Irinej of the Metropolitanate of Australia and New Zealand celebrated the Divine Liturgy. The choir Kornelije Stankovic from the parish of Saint Archdeacon Stephen  from Keysborough sang responses.After the procession around the monastery church of Saint Sava, Bishop Irinej cut the slava cake.

Serbian Patriarchate, 28 January 2013 - His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, in the presence of Their Graces Bishops Atanasije of Hvosno and Porfirije of Jegar, met at the Serbian Patriarchate with Mr. Aleksandar Tijanic, General Director of the Radio Television of Serbia with closest associates: Mr. Nikola Mirkov, Director of the Television of Belgrade and Mr. Slobodan Markovic, President of the Managing Board.

Professors and students of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the University in Belgrade prayerfully celebrated their Patron Saint-day – the feast day of Saint Sava, Serbian Archbishop.

In the presence of many students, professors and guests, a number of priests celebrated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy at the side chapel of John the Theologian. Following the Liturgy there was the Saint Sava Academy, which was blessed and opened by His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch.

On 28 January 2013, at the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade, in separate visits His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, met with Mr. Mileta Radojevic, director of the Office for Cooperation with Traditional Churches and Religious Communities; Dr. Miroljub Jevtic, professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade; as well as His Excellency Victor Nedopas, Ambassador of Ukraine in Belgrade.

On this occasion, in the present brief overview of the current situation, regarding the disrespect of the religious freedoms in our country, we will condensedly speak exclusively about the sociological aspect of the mentioned problem. As a motive we have the following: the history notes that this year marks the 1700 years since the declaration of the Edict of Milan. Essentially, the Edict is a decision, a decree of religious tolerance and abolition of every persecution on religious basis.

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch celebrated on Saint Sava's Day, the Divine Liturgy at the Saint Sava Memorial Cathedral on Vracar. The festal liturgical joy at the Memorial Cathedral of the Serbian people was recorded by deacon Dragan Tanasijevic.
