Bishop Longin Celebrates Hierarchical Liturgy at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church

On Sunday, November 1, 2009 on the Feast of the Prophet Joel and the Venerable Prochorus of Pcinja, the parishioners of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Duluth, Minnesota welcomed His Grace Bishop Longin for his first Archpastoral visit.  His Grace visited the Twin Cities the day before and came to Duluth on Sunday to celebrate the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy.  Bishop Longin recently became the new Bishop of the newly organized New Gracinica - Midwestern America Diocese.

Chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate DECR meets with officials of the UN Mission in Kosovo and Metochia

In conclusion of his visit to Kosovo and Metochia, Archbishop Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations, met on 30 October 2009 with Mr. Jolyon Negele, director of the political relations department of the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), and Mr. M. Krasnoschekov, a staff member of the department from the Russian Federation. Participating in the meeting, which took place at Pristina airport, was Mr. A. Shugurov, head of the office of the Russian Embassy in Serbia.

President Obama Receives Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in the Oval Office

His All Holiness, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was received today at the White House in the Oval Office by President Barack Obama. This reciprocal visit to the one paid by President Obama earlier this year (April 7, when he made his first overseas visit to a Muslim country, Turkey) followed up on their conversations at that time on the subjects of the recently concluded environmental symposium on the Mississippi River and the re-opening of the Theological School of Halki.

Representative of the Moscow Patriarchate in the USA meets with Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople

On 27 October 2009, the acting representative of the Moscow Patriarchate in the USA archpriest Alexander Abramov took part in the meeting of His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople with the hierarchs of the Standing Conference of the Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas (SCOBA). Present at the meeting were Archbishop Demetrios of America (Greek Orthodox Archdiocese), Metropolitan Philip (Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese), Metropolitan Christopher (Serbian Orthodox Archdiocese), Metropolitan Nicholas (Carpatho-Russian Diocese), Archbishop Nicolae (Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese), Metropolitan Jonah (Orthodox Church in America), Metropolitan Constantine (Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the USA), and Bishop Ilia (Albanian Orthodox Diocese).
