Our Saint Sava Summer Camp 2008

One of the most spiritually nourishing events every year in the Western American Diocese is the Childrens Camp. Organized by the Diocesan Camp Committee and held during the three weeks in July at the Saint Sava Mission and Retreat Center, in Jackson, California, this Camp always attracts many children from throughout the Diocese.

St Sava Summer Camp begins each year after the feast of Petrovdan and continues for three full weeks. The first week is restricted to younger campers of elementary and middle school. The second and third week are open to campers who range from those entering the first grade to the twelfth grade.

Two days ago, a team of reporters of "Glas Juga''("Voice of the South'') visted the location of the Holy Trinity Church in Đakovica, where they could see for themselves how the illegal works on church land property are being continued. The city park has already been constructed on the foundations of the destroyed temple, paths are being laid and lamps for the illumination of the park are being mounted. In spite of the letter addressed to the head of UNMIK, Mr. Zannier, Bishop Teodosije, who is responsible for the reconstruction of the Serbian religious sites on behalf of the Serbian Orthodox Church within the framework of the Council of Europe Commission, has not yet received any tangible reassurances, nor any kind of response that measures would be taken in order to stop the open usurpation of church land and the covering of the foundations of the church.

6th Islam-Orthodox Dialogue winds up

The Sixth Islam-Orthodox Dialogue wrapped up here Friday after two days.

A delegation from Religions Dialogue Center at Iran's Culture and Islamic Communications Organization and representatives of Russian Orthodox Church were present in the two-day talks in Moscow. Chancellor of Iran's Islamic Culture and Thought Research Center and a member of the country's Supreme Cultural Revolution Council Hojjatoleslam Sadeqi Rashad headed Iran's five-member team to the talks. The dialogue focused on man and God from the view point of Islam and Orthodox Christianity and the participants issued a final statement at the end.

TESLA DAYS in Australia

Annual Tesla Dinner was held in Parmelia Hilton Hotel in Perth on Nikola Tesla’s birthday 10th of July. This event was organized for the 5th consecutive year as part of the Tesla Day celebrations in Western Australia.

In his introductory presentation Dr Wally Knezevic described Tesla Forum’s results in previous year. Professor David Blair from University of WA and the W.A. Scientist of the year 2007, was the speaker of the night.

The 5th Annual St. Nikolaj of Ochrid-Zicha Pilgrimage was held on Sunday, July 13, 2008, at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Monastery, in Libertyville, Illinois.

Hierarchical Divine Liturgy officiated by and His Grace Bishop Peter of Cleveland of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia began at 10:00 A.M. Clergy from all parishes of the Midwestern Metropolitanate participated. The guest homilist was Protojerej-Stravrophor Dragan Veleusic of St. Sava Cathedral, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who eloquently spoke of the profound significance of this annual pilgrimage.

What is your jurisdiction?What can you do to stop annihilation of the Orthodox temple in Gjakova?

Russell: At this time, I would be uncertain of our jurisdiction, asyou put it. What I can tell you is that the SRSG is very much aware of thisissue, and he does - as part of his visits throughout Kosovo, he does plan tovisit Gjakova Municipalitynext week.
