The Biography of Patriarch of Antioch and All the East

His Beatitude John X was born in 1955 in the city of Lattakia, Syria. His father Mounah Yazigi was from Lattakia, a teacher of Arabic language. His mother Rosa Moussi is from Tripoli, Lebanon. They gave birth to four children – two boys and two girls. His Beatitude’s brother is His Grace Metropolitan Boulos of Aleppo. One sister is a nun. His Beatitude lived and studied in the city schools. He graduated from the University of Teshreen with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering. During his university studies, he played an active and leading role with the youth, which led to the establishment of a Byzantine Music School and many spiritual youth programs. His work led to a great spiritual revival among his generation.

The feast of Saint Thecla at the Patriarchate

On Sunday, September 24/October 7, 2018, the Patriarchate celebrated the commemoration of St. Thecla the First Martyr and Equal to the Apostles at her chapel within the Hagiotaphite Brotherhood, on the West side of the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen.

The Church holds the memory that Saint Thecla was Apostle Paul’s disciple and escorted him preaching Christ, while she endured many persecutions and died at the age of 90 in her hometown, Ikonion of Asia Minor.

The Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America convened its ninth annual meeting today in Cleveland, Ohio.

The day began with a celebration of the Divine Liturgy at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Parma, Ohio. His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Geron of America, Chairman of the Assembly, opened the meeting with a prayer. His Eminence Metropolitan Gregory of Nyssa, Secretary of the Assembly, took the roll call. Twenty-five hierarchs were present. Prior to the meeting, the hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia notified the Chairman that they have suspended their participation in the Assembly in light of events currently ongoing in Ukraine.

On Sunday, September 30, 2018, in the church of Great Maryr Panteleimon, His Holiness Patriarch Ecumenical Bartholomew of Constantinople and His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej celebrated the Patriarchate Liturgy in honor of the 100th anniversary of the breakthrough of the Thessalonica Front and the end of the First World War.

Patriarch Bartholomew and Patriarch Irinej were concelebrated by Metropolitan Paul of Drama, who was the official representative of His Beatitude Jeronimus, Archbishop of Athens and the Holy Synod of the Greek Church, Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb-Ljubljana, Metropolitan Jeremiah of Ancyra, Metropolitan Theolyptus of Iconia, Metropolitan Varnava of Neapolis, Archimandrite Metodije of the monastery of Hilandar.

Patriarch Irinej and Patriarch Bartholomew attended in Thessalonica the ceremony marking the centenary of the breakthrough of the Thessaloniki Front and the end of the First World War.

His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej, accompanied by His Eminence Porfirije, Metropolitan of Zagreb-Ljubljana, made a three-day visit to Thessalonica. The occasion of this visit was the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the breakthrough of the Thessalonica Front and the end of the First World War. This jubilee was crowned by the holy Patriarchal Liturgy that was officiated together by His Holiness Bartholomew, Patriarch of Constantinople and Serbian Patriarch Irinej on the military cemetery Zejtinlik in Thessalonica.
