The Polish Council of Bishops’ Exhortation to Their Priests and Monastics During the Pandemic

On Tuesday, November 3, the Polish Council of Bishops met in Warsaw under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw and All Poland. Among other matters, the hierarchs discussed the life of the Church in this extended time of pandemic.

As a fruit of their discussion, the hierarchs issued a message to the priests and monastics of the Polish Orthodox Church, calling on them to both observe sanitary and hygienic standards and to stand brave and strong during this time, remembering their priestly and monastic oaths to die to themselves and ever serve the Lord.

In this way, the clergy and monastics can offer an example of faith and hope to all the faithful of the Orthodox Church.

“I heard that you suffering due to health issues,” says the Ecumenical Patriarch in a handwritten letter he sent to the Patriarch of the Serbian Church, who was diagnosed with the coronavirus. “I would like to wish you a speedy recovery. I am certain that you will soon recover, physically and spiritually. The power of Your faith will prove to be stronger than the coronavirus and, therefore, you will soon return to Your high-level and sacred duty. This is what we all wish here at the Fanar, together with the Hierarchs, your clergy and your people, who are praying constantly for their respected Patriarch,” he said in the letter.

Orthodox hierarchs offer condolences for terrorist attack in Vienna

independent.co.uk20-year-old Kujtim Fejzulai opened fire on innocent civilians near Vienna’s main synagogue on Monday night, killing at least four and wounding at least 14 others, seven with life-threatening injuries. Fejzulai himself was shot and killed by police. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack the next day.

Orthodox hierarchs from various jurisdictions have begun to respond to the senseless tragedy.
