Patriarch Irinej and Minister Loncar called on citizens to respect epidemiological measures during slava celebrations

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, and Dr. Zoran Loncar, Minister of Health in the Government of the Republic of Serbia,  called on all citizens of Serbia yesterday to adhere to anti-epidemic measures in the next period, and during slava celebrations, in order to preserve public health.

At today's meeting at the Patriarchate, Belgrade, which was also attended by director of the Clinic for Infectious and Tropical Diseases, Dr. Goran Stevanovic, Minister Loncar informed His Holiness Patriarch Irinej about the current epidemiological situation in our country, as well as about the preparedness of the state health system for the new peak of the coronavirus. On that occasion, the Minister pointed out that medical staff would do everything to preserve health of our citizens this time as well, but that it was necessary to respect the measures in order to keep the epidemic under control.

Orthodox community given use of a church in southern Spain

On Tuesday, October 13, Archbishop Nestor of Madrid and Lisbon of the Russian Orthodox Church met with the Roman Catholic Archbishop Francisco Javier Martínez Fernández of Granada, resulting in an agreement whereby the Church of St. Bartholomew in the city center, was transferred to the use of the Holy Protection Orthodox parish community, reports the site of the Diocese of Spain and Portugal.

Order of Saint Symeon the Myrrh-Bearer to the Serbian Army Guard

On October 12, 2020, on the feast of the Venerable Cyriacus the Hermit, Their Graces Bishops Arsenije of Nis, responsible for the Army of Serbia, and Stefan of Remezijana, Vicar of the Serbian Patriarch, celebrated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in the military chapel of St. George the Great Martyr at the Guard Headquarters of the Serbian Armed Forces, Belgrade.  Hiigh Church awards were handed to members of the Guard and military chaplains.

On the occasion of marking the 190th anniversary of organizing of the Guard, and as an expression of paternal gratitude for the enormous work invested in arranging and equipping the military chapel in that unit and creating conditions for promoting moral and spiritual values based on Orthodox tradition, His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej awarded the Order of Saint Symeon the Myrrh-Bearer to the Guard of the Serbian Armed Forces. Major General Milomir Todorovic, Commander of the Guard, was awarded the same order as well.
