Patriarch Ilia of Georgia condemns explosion in Sakdrisi

Patriarchate of Georgia has released a special statement which reads the following:

‘’The fact of exploding the Sakdrisi gold field has caused our great concern. We cannot understand how the Culture ministry has issued permission to destroy the cultural monument while scientists and civil society were against it.’’

Patriarch Ilia of Georgia: don’t evict people from houses because of the debt

The Catholicos – Patriarch Ilia II of All Georgia asked the country’s commercial banks to not evict from their houses those people, who could not pay their mortgage loans, at least during the winter season, reports The Christian Telegraph in reference to Interfax-Religion.

“I have concerns about those in need, who have taken loans, and banks are now evicting them from their homes. I want to ask the heads of all banks to not do that at least in the winter season,” said Ilia-II during his sermon.

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew Visits Corfu

In Corfu, western Greece, arrived at 11:00 am today Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who responded to the invitation of Archbishop Nektarios of Corfu, Paxos and Diapontia Islands to visit the island as part of the celebration of its patron saint, St. Spyridon, on this coming Friday, December 12.

Baron Tiesenhausen receives Patriarchal award

On 7 December 2014, after the Divine Liturgy celebrated at the Cathedral of Three Saint Doctors in Paris, Bishop Nestor of Korsun handed over to Baron Tiesenhausen an award from His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia – the Order of the Holy and Right-believing Prince Daniel of Moscow, 2nd class.

On the morning of Friday, December, 5, 2014, His All-Holiness visited the seat of the United Nations in Geneva, together with his entourage, where he was warmly welcomed by Michael Møller, Acting Director of the United Nations Office at Geneva as well as of the Economic Commission for Europe. Also present was Ambassador Alexandros Alexandris, Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations. At the conclusion of the visit, Mr. Møller presented to the Ecumenical Patriarch a folder containing copies of historical documents preserved in the Library of the League of Nations, relating to the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Greek Community in Turkey.
