Kazan Mother of God Protects Diver Expedition to the Pole of Cold

 During all immersions, the Kazan Mother of God was right by, standing on an ice pedestal.

The Kazan diver expedition set a new world record on the Labynkyr (52.3 meters) and Vorota (59.6 meters) lakes, one of the planet’s most remote places. All this time the expedition was accompanied by the Kazan icon of the Mother of God.

Patriarch Kirill meets Primate of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland

On September 2, 2014, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia met with the Primate of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, Archbishop Kari Mäkinenn of Turku and Finland. The meeting took place at the Patriarchal and Synodal residence at the St. Daniel Monastery, Moscow.

Patriarch Kirill warmly welcomed Archbishop Mäkinenn and his delegation, stressing that the bilateral theological dialogue, which began between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland in 1970, was of great importance for both the development of Orthodox-Protestant contacts and the consolidation of friendly relations between the two countries.

On August 19, 2014, festivities took place on the Kizhi island, dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Transfiguration Church—a world-famous architectural monument and gem of the UNESCO World Heritage, the legendary masterpiece of anonymous Onega region carpenters, reports the Information department of the Diocese of Petrozavodsk and Karelia.

On August 24, 2014, in compliance with the decision of the Russian Orthodox Church Holy Synod, a delegation of the Russian Church arrived in Tehran for the 9th session of the Joint Russian-Iranian Commission for Dialogue “Orthodoxy-Islam”.

The delegation is led by Archbishop Feofilakt of Pyatigorsk and Cherkessk. It includes Archpriest Vladislav Tsypin, Moscow Theological Academy; Archpriest Sergiy Zvonarev, secretary for the far abroad, Department for External Church Relation; Rev. Dimitry Safonov, head of the DECR section for interreligious contacts; Rev. Iliya Yakovenko, assistant to Archbishop Feofilakt, and Ms. Ye. Dunaeva, senior researcher, Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences.

Metropolitan Hilarion: the Church bears special responsibility today

After the enthronement celebration at the Kiev Laura of the Caves, during which Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk voiced a patriarchal letter of recognition to the new Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Onufry of Kiev and All Ukraine, he shared his thoughts about the mission of the Church in Ukraine and priority tasks facing its Primate in a talk with Deacon Yevgeny Murzin, a correspondent of the Journal of the Moscow Patriarchate:

In each historical era, especially at turning points in history, the Lord calls to the high primatial ministry those who by their life have shown their commitment to Him and His Church. Today we cannot but recall how – in 1992, at a crucial moment for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church when a threat emerged to the unity of Ukrainian Orthodoxy because of a schism – the Council of Bishops unanimously elected His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir as the Primate.
