Patriarch Kirill meets with president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity

His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia met with Cardinal Kurt Koch, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, on 16 March 2011 at his working residence in Chisty Pereulok.

They discussed major areas of cooperation between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church, especially the issues considered by the two Churches' Joint International Commission for Theological Dialogue. Since its establishment in 1979 this commission has become the main platform for Orthodox-Catholic dialogue because, among other things, its work involves representatives of all the Local Orthodox Churches. The commission agreed on several documents concerning the teaching on the Sacraments and sacramental nature of the Church.

Metropolitan Hilarion speaks at international Christian congress in Wurzburg

Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Department for External Church Relations, attended on 19 March 2010 the 4th International Congress ‘The Meeting Place is the Universal Church' organized by the German office of the international charity ‘Kirche in Not' (Aid to the Church in Need) in Wurzburg, Germany. This year the congress had as its theme the words of St. Paul from his Letter to the Romans: Keep your spiritual fervor (Rom. 12:11).

Patriarch Kirill compares successful development of world economics to Orthodox Lent

Human civilization will further successfully develop if people are able to limit themselves, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia believes.

"Everything that happens today with climate, with people proves that we don't develop correctly. I am aware that what I say now contradicts to what you say in Davos," the Patriarch said at a meeting with participants in the Global Leaders Group of the World Economic Forum on Saturday in Moscow.

IOCC, Orthodox Church in Japan to Provide Aid to Coastal Communities

With financial support from an emergency grant of $25,000 from the National Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society and contributions by private donors, International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) will provide humanitarian assistance such as medicines, food and other essential items to communities in the earthquake and tsunami-damaged Pacific coastal districts of Japan in the prefectures of Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima and Ibaragi. The assistance is being distributed by the Orthodox Church in Japan in cooperation with regional authorities. All of the aid to be distributed is expected to be obtained locally in Japan.
