Inter-Orthodox consultation begins discussion on the nature of the church

March 2011 - 14:56A week-long inter-Orthodox consultation with the aim of studying the Faith and Order document "The Nature and Mission of the Church" began its work on Thursday 3 March in Ayia Napa, Cyprus. The aim of the consultation is to offer distinctly Orthodox insights as part of a world-wide discussion of the doctrine of the Church, or "ecclesiology". The gathering is hosted by the Orthodox Church of Cyprus.
Tveit meets with archbishop and president of Cyprus
7. March 2011 - 14:53The general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC), Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit met with Archbishop Chrysostomos II of the Church of Cyprus and the president of Cyprus, Dr Demetris Christofias, in separate meetings Thursday in Nicosia.
IOCC Supports Earthquake Relief Efforts Of The Greek Archdiocese Of New Zealand

March 2011 - 10:17As survivors begin to piece back their lives in the New Zealand city of Christchurch following a 6.3 magnitude quake that struck on February 22, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of New Zealand has initiated efforts to provide assistance to those who have lost homes and places of work. The death toll in Christchurch stands at 148, but authorities expect it to rise to near 200.
Update on the rebuilding of Saint Nicholas Church at Ground Zero

February 2011 - 14:34On February 14, 2011, Saint Nicholas Church and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America filed a lawsuit in Federal District Court in Manhattan against the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey as well as other agencies and individuals, in order to foster the rebuilding at Ground Zero of the only house of worship destroyed by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
New Directories Added to Assembly Website
17. February 2011 - 14:32New directories have been created for the Assembly of Bishops. In addition to the initial Directories of the Bishops and of the Parishes, three new directories have been added: the Directories of Military Chaplains, of Male Monastic Communities and of Female Monastic Communities. In addition, the Parish Directory has been updated to now include the parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate in the U.S.
